flat track comes to brainerd

Sept 24
AMA flat track comes to Brainerd.      With Canterbury Park  (Shakopee) having trouble with legal permits the September 24th race was now scheduled to race at the North Central Speedway in Brainerd. It is located about ten miles south of BIR,Brainerd  International Racewy, which was hosting a CRA road race this weekend .It was a chilly night at the half mile oval dirt track. It was a hard packed groove track.(compared to a  loose cushion style track) There were legendary and iconic spectators there. Boden Soderbeck from Yamaha was there with Larry Middleton from Tucker Rocky, also Jeff Fuller  from Drag Specialties. Former Burnsville Sport Center manager MIke Dolney joined the party.Brett Donohue from the former Donohue Harley Davidson was present along with Tim from the Hitching Post.Former veteran CRA road racer Boyd was there too.     It was a who's who of former top flat track racers including Peter Hook, Billy Hofmeister, Randy Riley, and Brian Peterson, also Greg Gonczy. The boys were all there.      In the Grand National class (Twin Cylinder)    Jared Mees won, although Kenny Coolbeth charged through the pack and led a couple times.Jared fought back and led at the end. Jake Johnson rode a steady third place. Former multi time champ Chris Carr looked good and finished fourth.  Mikey Avila dominated and won the single cylinder class.  All in all it was a great race evening.                                  moto scott
